Is EFT Suitable For Children?

Whilst facilitating a Level I workshop this past weekend, the inevitable EFT question re children came up ie Is EFT suitable for children - and if so at what age can we actually start working with children?

To be able to calm yourself during a moment of stress, or to remove the charge from an emotional trigger, are perhaps a couple of the most practical self-help skills that a person can develop, it follows then that teaching a child from an early age to do just this must be worthwhile.

My grandson at his first birthday party had fallen in love with balloons! He loved the look of them, the pretty colours, how they felt and in between having fun with his guests, was to be seen hugging and squeezing his balloons. Then the inevitable happened - the one he was hugging (a little too tight) popped with an almighty noise which frightened the living daylights out of him.

He does this thing whereby first of all, big tears appear in his eyes and his bottom lip starts to quiver! At the same time he takes a huge breath in which lasts for a very long time and then . . . after a long time, a huge roar comes out of him.

He was inconsolable for a while and whilst his French grand-mother was holding him, I was tapping on his tiny little finger points and occasionally his crown. At about the second round whilst my hand was tapping his head, he suddenly stopped crying and looked up at my hand, and then back at me. And that was it - no more crying.

I didn’t give it another thought until another balloon popped. This time I had been in the process of taking my 100th photograph of him, and the photograph shows him with his eyes and mouth opened wide - however, this time no more tears. And I think he is totally cured now of that one as we obviously got a dud pack of balloons, as this continued to happen throughout the party; as each one year old would squeeze and cuddle a balloon!

So yes we can start very early. In fact I have done many a good deed on planes when I have surrogately tapped for poor parents struggling with restless crying babies.

EFT is an easily taught skill, and is a powerful tool in a parent’s tool-box. Sign up for my newsletter which will provide regular top tips for working with EFT with your children.
